Mmm-hmm. I suppose the book is here because it found a reader who really connected with the main character. Our stories are not alike, and we are not alike, I think, but the undertone is definitely the same. To put it short: I thought I understood him.
An episode that I absolutely loved in the book was when the main character met a friend who had broken his leg and gotten into finding out how muscles etc. work. After all this was revealed to the main character he started thinking about walking and moving the leg and about all the muscles that he should move in a specific order and it got so complicated that he could not walk for weeks or so! He never fully recovered from this incident, but had a limp in his other leg the rest of his life.
what a strange book it is then? what is the plot of the book? The story you told reminds me of something, dont know about what but somthing like this i read or heared before.
Oh, I think that part is from the strange end. *smile* It's not a strange book, but a book about a man who is extremely nervous and insecure, and thus, appears a bit strange. The plot is what you might expect from memoirs: he tells about his father's death, about his business and his loved ones, and about his choices that are often more or less questionable.
it's one of the most important books of Italian literature - it was published in 1923. The author is Italo Svevo from Triest. He was a friend of Joyce, who helped him a lot in the promotion of his books (nemo propheta in patria... )
