Zap!

Zap! is a 2D retro shooter, set in outer space. The idea is that you control a small triangle, and you play custom-made maps online with other real people who are playing; and instead of advancing levels, you play tons of awesome maps, each with a specific game type. Players also recieve weapons, modules, ability to choose username, chat box (spam and word filters ON), hosting servers, etc.

Game Types Include: Capture the Flag, Soccer, Hunters. Weapons Include: Phaser, Bouncer, Mine. Modules Include: Boost, Shield, Repair.

You may also make levels and then host them on servers, which can be played by others on Zap!.

There is also a LAN game (local area network, so that would be playing with local people) and more.

Zap! can be played on a Mac, Windows, or Linux, and there is both a demo and a registered version. The demo has a couple of nag screens, less weapons and modules, not easily able to host servers, and their username isn’t permanent (so other people can use it). Demos, however, do not have a trial version, so Zap! may last forever.

Zap! was created by GarageGames in late 2004. I am usually sky_lark on it, I’ve registered, and currently have played for more than 2 years.

Why should you play Zap!? Besides the fact that it’s extremely addicting and fun? Well, GarageGames has abonded Zap!—meaning they don’t do anymore work on Zap!, and thus Zap! has a very low population… of about 20 active players. You’ll be lucky to get in a game of 3 or 4, but I have been in games with over 15 people.

But don’t let this make you sad. We’re a very hard-working and kind community, and we’re trying our best to change the amounts of people who play Zap!.
