These were the last words of Julius Caesar, the Roman Emperor. Lived during 100 BC to 44 BC, aged 57.
He was attacked by his senators (aprox. 60 in numbers). His closest friend 'Brutus' was also included in the conspiracy. When attacked by the senators he tried to stop first few hits, but the moment Julius Caesar saw Brutus as one of his killers, he said, "You too, Brutus ?" . Saying this, he covered his face with his toga (a distinctive garment of Ancient Rome) and resigned himself to his fate.
The conspirators attacked in such numbers that they even wounded one another. Brutus is said to have been wounded in the hand.

Oh, this English chauvinism! "Et tu, Brute?" are more likely Caesars famous last words. </smartass>
I was about to say the exact same thing!
Quick! Someone add "Et tu, Brute?". ;)
Shakespeare, in his play 'Julius Caesar', gives Caesar's last words as "You too, Brutus ?" (may also be translated as "And you, Brutus" OR "Even you, Brutus?"). However, Suetonius (a famous Roman historian and biographer) reports his last words, (translated in English) as "You too, my child?".
Shakespeare deviated from these historical facts in order to curtail time and compress the facts so that the play could be staged without any kind of difficulty. The tragic force is condensed into a few scenes for the heightened effect.
i think when he found out it was Brutus that was among him that wanted him to pass away he was suprised so he said this words.
