Yoshino (相馬 芳野 Full name: Souma Yoshino) is a Bounto (バウン)* who have lived through many centuries without suffering the physical defects of aging. Beautiful and strong willed, she is being taken advantage of by her lover Kariya, who controlled the Bountos with an iron fist and smuggles as much spiritual powers (illegally) as possible.Yoshino herself also controlled a very powerful fire doll---Geitei ゲーテ (or, Goethe), a doll in the shape of a masculine torso bursting into flames.

Another apsect of Yoshino's strength comes from her reproductive powers, as seen when Kariya killed her and used her energy to make numerous replica dolls.The ability to become a mother, to procreate and have reproductive intercourse differentiate Yoshino from any Bounto#; and this being the reason Kariya lusts after, and his main objective in approaching Yoshino many centuries earlier is because of this reason. "My search (for that power) lead me to this woman". Kariya in his relationship with Yoshino exploited her and others ruthlessly; often using cruel and menacing techniques to absorb power from victims, his blood thirsty act caused much pain to Yoshino. So for much of the times only the doll accompanied Yoshino, and she treated it almost like a surrogate companion (or surrogate husband); Kariya noted that Yoshino's feelings for her summon is not based on a master and slave relationship, but borders on love. Again, the dolls are known to be dangerous and turn against their owners, but Geitei's agreement to battle on behalf of his mistress, and his willingness to merge with her and die in order to defeat Kariya is the proof that the bond between Yoshino and her doll is a very deep one.

Appears to be in her early twenties (in the flash back of her past living someplace in Europe, Yoshino evidently has stopped aging at around age 20 or so). Yoshino is a highly attractive woman who wears a semi transparent black silk blouse worn over a tunic like frock and dark colored business pants (she is as beautiful as her name, for "Yoshino" 芳野 means Floral Wilderness). By striking the jewellery on her left middle finger on the bracelet of her right hand, Yoshino releases Geitei from its seal and a crescent of roaring fire came forth. Although her strength and doll are powerful, Yoshino is still a very delicate woman, and suffer from loneliness due to loss of love and constantly being used by her superior.

In order to prevent the young Quincy Ishida Uryuu (石田 雨竜) from being turned into another victim, Yoshino rebelled against her lover. Although she fights courageously, the battle with Kariya is a costly one. Not only does her weakened state allowed Kariya to have an upper hand, Yoshino is controlling Geitei with great difficulty. Ishida's presence at the battle scene temporarily encouraged the battered woman, but Kariya eventually breaks her seal and ruins Geitei, and Yoshino is brutally crushed in combat.

But before she dies, Yoshino is absolutely confirmed that Ishida loves her, and collapses in his arms as her physical body dissipates into molecules.

# The other Bounto known to behave differently is Gowa, who controlled the iron doll Delk.

* Bounto Arc flashbacks: Yoshino used to live her life somewhere in Europe, as an outcast in that society. The town people are both envious of her youthfulness as well as  her unusual appearance. Being unable to age or even fit into that community, Yoshino tries to kill herself in despair in a run-down chapel with a piece of broken glass; Kariya stopped her in time and convinced Yoshino to start a new life with him.
