To be honest: I never liked one of his movies….Don’t know what that is.

really? sleeper is one of the funniest films i have ever seen in my LIFE . like, laughing so hard you’re crying kind of funny.

I’m so glad nobody said something like, “The Best Pervert”.

I’ve only seen Annie Hall, The Purple Rose Of Cairo, and Deconstructing Harry. I love him even though I feel bad for him.

Any recommendations?

You should watch Zelig. It’s a mockumentary. And if you like mockumentaries, you should also watch Take The Money And Run.

Another fairly unusual film is What’s Up, Tigerlily. It’s a Japanese film that they dubbed over with a completely different script. Hilarious.

Other good ones are Stardust Memories, Broadway Danny Rose, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Manhattan.

He is great. His more recent films haven’t been as good as his old ones, but many are still great compared to other films out there. Match Point was good, and Scoop was funny enough. Though I found Scarlet Johansson horribly annoying. Then other fun, recentish ones are Bullets Over Broadway and Manhattan Murder Mystery.

The first movie of his that I saw was Sweet and Lowdown. Many people aren’t too fond of that, but I loved it.

yes, i strongly recommend Manhattan as well. my favorite comedy, perhaps of all time, is Manhattan Murder Mystery, which is so silly and fun. great cast (as usual). watch it a couple times to get all of the dialog. :D

If you want to see a Woody Allen drama I strongly suggest Match Point which is more recent starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It also has a great soundtrack with some music by Enrico Carruso.

I watched Crimes and Misdemeanors and Another Woman. I love serious philosophical Woody Allen. I also just finished Matchpoint today, which seems like a sort of revisited, modernized, more serious and dark version of Crimes and Misdemeanors. My school librairy had all of these titles. How great is that? Most of the selection there (and there are many Woody Allen titles) are of his funny movies (suprisingly enough Manhattan isn't among the 20 odd films of his there- but I ordered that at the public librairy). I think next I'll go with either Bananas or Play It Again, Sam. Or maybe Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask).

Zelig isn't there either. Are there any more of his you know of that have a more serious plot (Crimes and Misdemeanors for example-despite the obvious comedy intertwined into it)?

You should definitely watch Hannah and Her Sisters and Stardust Memories. They're more serious, as Woody Allen goes.

Whenever I see Alan Alda now, all I can think of is "Comedy is tragedy, plus time!" and Mussolini.

How strange, that your library doesn't hold Manhattan. That is one of the big ones! Crikey.
