My, they're late where you are. We start suffering this in September.
Tom Lehrer summed it all up ages ago in his immortal Christmas Carol which includes the lines:
"God rest ye merry merchants
May ye make the Yuletide pay.
Angels we have heard on high
Tell us to go out and buy!"
Ahh, I love Tom Lehrer.
Loudon Wainwright also has a good song, Suddenly It's Christmas.
