That’s funny.

A friend, James was telling me when he was a kid, he would go around to his friends place to play with the friends Commodore 16. His friend asked him if he would like to play a game. James said ‘sure’, and his friend would quickly type the source code then and there for the game. How old school is that?

My first home computer was a ZX81 . I remember typing in the whole 16KB of a game, and before i could play or save it the computer crashed, the memory expansion packs were dodgy. Was not pleased :)

Those were the days. ;) Me and my brother used to write silly little games for each other in BASIC on our bleeding-edge Apple IIe, way back when. Then Infocom came along and made us all look bad. Still, typing in game code just for a one-time use is impressively old-school in the extreme. Wherever James’s friend is now, he’s probably awesome.

Yeah i used BASIC too, its very unforgiving tho isn’t it. One spelling mistake and nothing works at all :)

Perhaps, but at least in BASIC I stood a fighting chance of finding said mistakes.

Really, it was a well named language.

I miss it, a little.

I remember trying to learn C++, i didn’t get that far but i noticed a large number of similarities between the two languages. I take it you code or use HTML ?

HTML /Javascript and a (very annoying) bit of PHP for work purposes. I enjoy Perl in my free time.
