webEdition Software GmbH was founded in April 2003 with the aim of developing and marketing the webEdition content management system (CMS). webEdition was first developed by Astarte New Media AG, which established an outstanding reputation as a software development company with such products as the CD recording software, Toast, for the Macintosh platform, and the DVD authoring tool known as DVDirector for the PC and Macintosh markets. The foundation of the North American branch office, webEdition Software Ltd., could be celebrated already a year later in April 2004. The Managing Director of the company, Guido Polko, has more than fifteen years of management and entrepreneurial experience with companies such as Proctor and Gamble, The GfK Group, and several “new economy” companies.

Having sold more than 25.000 licences since first entering the market in November of 2001, webEdition has established itself as one of the leading systems in the german-speaking CMS market. Licensed webEdition users not only include internet and multimedia service providers, systems houses, and businesses, but also institutions and manufacturers. Developers of webEdition work closely with customers in the continuous development of the webEdition product line. By doing so, webEdition Software GmbH can react quickly to the requirements of the market.

Besides the further development of the WCMS webEdition even further applications were realized in recent past: The MAMP was introduced at the Systems Fair 2004; this is an installation package for Apple Macintosh environment and was the first of its kind worldwide at this time. Since the beginning of the year 2005 well-known service providers have offered further software distribution: webEdition easy. In November 2005 webEdition launched a new product: pageLogger, a software that provides real-time information about the visitor behavior on your website.
