Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum & Nakai, family Cucurbitaceae) refers to both fruit and plant of a vine-like (climber and trailer) herb originally from southern Africa and one of the most common types of melon. This flowering plant produces a special type of fruit known by botanists as a pepo, which has a thick rind (exocarp) and fleshy center (mesocarp and endocarp); pepos are derived from an inferior ovary and are characteristic of the Cucurbitaceae. The watermelon fruit, loosely considered a type of melon (although not in the genus Cucumis), has a smooth exterior rind (green and yellow) and a juicy, sweet, usually red or yellow, but sometimes orange, interior flesh. The flesh consists of highly developed placental tissue within the fruit. The former name Citrullus vulgaris (vulgaris meaning "common" — Shosteck, 1974), is now a synonym of the accepted scientific name for watermelon, Citrullus lanatus.

I eat watermelon seeds. I don’t even think it’s weird anymore.
I have always eaten the seeds. Its nice to meet other people who do. :)
The best source of hapiness to. Watermelon makes smile and laugh, i know.. sounds really weird.. but it’s true :P
when i was younger, there was this episode of Rugrats where Chuckie ate the seeds of a fruit and Angelica convinced him that it was going to grow in his stomach. I also belived that for the longest, and now i laugh everytime i swallow seeds.

what about dipped in chocolate? ever tried the rinds? not quite as good as pineapple rinds :(
and the seeds are the best part. i used to give in to that myth about eating the seeds and a watermelon grows inside you and then it gets so big you explode and die but that was a long time ago but now i like them seeds!

I love watermelon. Reminds me of summer. The seeds also taste good. We even have a watermelon seed opener here. :)
I have eaten a lot of watermelon in my life, and I have never eaten a seed, spit it at friends when I was younger, sure. But eaten them? Never!
P.S. I am not calling it weird or anything, I just saying I don’t do it.

Actually, I have gotten better with regards to eating veggies. I never used to eat them at all. I do like them prepared different ways.
That’s good. I must say, I hate parents who can’t cook. They ruin people’s tolerance for food which takes effort to prepare well. (meatloaf, broccoli, etc)
Oh how true!! My Mother used to make very elaborate dishes that took great care and time, to show my gratitude I wound up eating a PB&J, or cereal because I was very picky!! She did make a mean meatloaf (I would have been just as happy having that every night!!). I certainly don’t shy away from the kitchen, my cooking, if you are wondering, goes far beyond that of macaroni and cheese and hot dogs!! ;)

o totally understandable 1 watermelon is huge fr one person, it helps to have friends or family or random people to share it with
I think it was in Japan (not positive on the country) came up with a way to grow watermelons square so that they fit in a fridge better, hmmm random but interesting
And you can't eat too much at once. It gives a horrible outcome.
I wonder how they do that? So far, I think Japanese are pretty creative.

yay i guess you could finish one in about 4 or 5 days but i think watermelon is a social knid of food like you should have it at cook outs and beach parties etc etc
But I really don't like saving watermelons in the fridge…something's just wrong with them afterwards.

Watermelon is the king of fruits! (Not durian.) I love watermelon. I eat it and drink it and dress in watermelon-colored clothes and have watermelon towels and collectible items, and my avatar in Second Life is all watermeloney too!
I just joined bestuff for the express purpose of voicing my opinion about watermelon... tho I haven't had it with salt yet, that's another thing I can try. Hail watermelon
