It’s bad to stab a person in the knee in order to take his Pez Dispenser because the amount of pain the other person would feel from the stabbing outweighs the amount of joy you would experience from having that awesome new Pez Dispenser, even if it is shaped like Snoopy.
In other words: greatest happiness for the greatest number, determined quantitatively and based on the best available information, without regard for geographic proximity.
