Harvey Dent started off as Gotham's District Attourney. During a trial, mob boss Salvadore Maroni threw acid into his face, succesfully scorching Dent's right side of his face, and causing permanent psychological damage. Dent took his lucky two-headed coin and marred one side of it, representing himself, and he now bases all his actions on the flip of his coin – heads, the good side; tails, the scarred side, is the bad side.
