aaww que triste Nick, Travelling alone is ….well to lonely
Nah… that's a special thing to learn more about yourself, and to get to know more people too!! Believe me!! ;)
if you say so, but I still say its more fun to travel with others
Let's say I like both things…. Of course I do travel with other people, at least once a year… But from time to time I like to take some time to travel by myself, for it's a different thing. Lots of wonderful things happened to me whenever I travelled alone…..heheh….
What kind of places do you go to alone, Nick?
Anywhere…. mountains and lakes, countryside… but even big cities with arts and museums are perfect. The nice thing is that you are not alone for a long time, I swear… when you travel alone you are in the mood of socializing, and people feel it.. so you take your time to talk to local people, and are more careful to everyone around….
Yeah, you should try, really.... take my advice. Some basic rules to make it work better are, for instance, to plan the itinerary well, and make sure you have some activities to do - hiking, visiting museums, places, etc. depending on the place you are going to. Plus, music plays a key role for me: I love to have my own soundtrack while I travel and look at places. I can spend hours walking in nature, or in the city streets while listening to my favourite and most atmospheric songs. ;) Another trick, if it's the first time you do it, is to plan a trip to a place where you know there is someone you know living there or close.... so in case you feel lonely you can go and visit them. ;)
haha yes a good music selection is always neccessary for any traveling adventure :)
That's true! And possibly a good book…
I would rather have music then a book, you travel to enjoy other places not to be in another place and enjoy the fiction of a book!
Very true swissbob, money is an important issue but a good playlist is important too :)
Oh for sure, when I'm actually seeing and enjoying these places music is definitely a favoured option, however travelling between places can be excruciatingly dull and I need a book aswell!
Good music, good reading material, and a credit card. Then you're sorted!
You forgot about lipgloss and a cell phone! :)
Good point about the credit card, Swissbob! ;)
As to books.... yes, I always take one with me while travelling, but I usually end up reading guides or books about the place I am visiting. Plus, if I read a book I can really isolate myself and ignore what is going on around me, whereas with music I can watch, and look at people and places...
Same happens with people - you can meet them again a thousands miles away.
I can see you have some experience of travelling in South East Asia... and by yourself, wow!
Must have been great.....;)
But it makes me more
I would love to read your journals. That's another thing I like to do when I travel alone: writing notes, if anything comes to mind... to keep memories.
But don't be
... at least you have been there, I have not..
Ah, South-East Asia… I'd go back to Hong Kong right now if I were able.
Great post, Nick....
And yes, music is fun-damental.... last year, with my mp3 player I managed to record the sound of the ocean waves and some notes too....;)
What is life?
You would get bored travelling alone, Masta, wouldn't you?
Wow, great new pictures....... Purple Octopus, a magical one...
And Clara, where did you take that one? - you took it yourself, didn't you?
Well, it's a Scottish island beach…....beautiful place.
I'd like to travel alone sometime, but I never manage to do that.. It's a little rare for me to have time off work, and when I do, people expect me to be a part of their plans for vacations… what should I do?
uhm..... maybe you could start with a 'lonely weekend' somewhere not too far? :)
I did it, and it was a great start....
I flew half way around the world on my own (hence the need for a good book) and it was awesome. Real time to find myself!
I wouldn't call it 'lonely', though, Nick! Lone perhaps - like the Lone Ranger, or Lone Wolf. Lonely sounds too sad! Don't have a sad weekend!
How about an independent weekend or a free weekend…
Yeah, I could try that, thanks!
I have a question though... how about safety? I mean, wouldn't it be kinda dangerous for a woman to travel by herself? Any safety tips?
Speak softly and carry a big stick!
Independent! That's a good word for it, we'll go with that, DB!
From now on no more alone but indipendent!
I've traveled by myself a couple fo time Seiva and nothings ever happened to me before, I got hit on a couple times when I asked for directions but other than that its not that bad :)
:) Yay for independent weekends! :)
Wow, Swissbob, that's great! Thanks a lot! : )
Dumbbrunette, I guess it would be OK to be hit on by a guy when asking for directions, as long as he doesn't try to steal my purse or anything, lol... Considering the country I live in, it would be impossible to survive if women got upset with this kind of stuff, really.
Well, you guys inspired me. Next topic on my to-do list: an independet weekend!
I love visting and exploring cities by myself, especially without any agenda whatsoever. Nothing else feels quite so self-indulgent. Two thumbs up to Nick for adding this.
very true bailey, on independent trips you can be very selfish and see what you want when you want, you dont have to work with someelse wants and needs :)
I went to Scotland by myself once, and it was for business actually, but I managed to take some time for exploring places and travelling to some distant islands. Great experience!
Ooopsss, sorry girls.... I wrote 'lonely' but I meant something positive, of course...
After all, I am Italian.... and this is not my language, sorry!
Independent weekend is a cool definition!!!! yay!
Nick
p.s. thanks Bailey!!! ;)
I just had an unforgettable 'independent weekend' and oh, it was amazing!!
;)
what did you do?
Went to the Appennines, lovely mountains… by myself… oh yes! Got to meet some nice fishermen on a lake… lol talked to them, lol.. and I climbed up a mountain peak!!! with some music and some water, lol
sounds amaxing, climbing a mountain with nothing but nature and music :)
You bet!! Gotta love it.
Have you tried an independent weekend yet? ;)
no :( not yet i've been busy doing other stuff
ah okay! sure i meant somewhere not too far, :)
gives an absolute feeling of freedom travelling alone
