Simple, inexpensive cameras, once made for children or for cheap use. Made out of plastic, sometimes including the lens. Nothing more than a few aperatures (usually shown by pictures) and maybe some basic focus. Photographers have been turning to these bare-bones cameras for their optical effects and sometimes ethereal illusions.
Wikipedia Entry.
Holga, Diana (and their clones), the Lomo LCA (or any lomo camera for that matter!), actionsampler, splitcam, the lubitel… the list goes on. Is it cheap? Was it ever given away as a prize or with a magazine subscrition? Does it have light leaks? Then it’s probably a toy camera.
