The Witches… I remember when I was in Junior School, I was about 7 or 8, we used to get read a bit of a story near hometime, well we were kids… I remember our teacher Mrs Lowe reading us The Witches, I have always loved that book and when it was announced that Mrs Lowe would be reading more of The Witches I would react with great enthusiasm… now, you know how kids don’t get sarcasm or irony, Mrs Lowe would usually say something like “I don’t think Richard likes The Witches much” – obviously I get it now, but at the time I used to think “why does she keep saying that? I love it!” She was a foul tempered old cow, though, she liked me though so I used to get off pretty easy.
