The Original Version

Almost without fail remakes are poor quality versions of the original produced to make a quick buck (certainly in the movies, although not so much with music). Originality is a rare thing these days - that maybe a fact, but people should at least try to have an original thought themselves.
Obviously there are some exceptions; Bogey's Maltese Falcon, perhaps Solaris, Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower', maybe Kirsty McCall's 'Days', arguably The Fly, but there really aren't that many.
Less of a crime, perhaps, is when people at least put some effort into the new version (Dawn of the Dead) or change the scenario or setting - Forbidden Planet being The Tempest, and Clueless being Emma to name two (although both of those have changed the medium entirely, which is fair enough).
Predominantly, I suppose, this page is about movies as different versions of songs tend to play on the individual's taste, but I think it's fair to say that we can all unite in hating the remake of The Wicker Man. Personally I wouldn't piss on that if it were... erm. No, hang on...
