The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel written by the British academic J. R. R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien’s earlier fantasy book, The Hobbit, and soon developed into a much larger story. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, with much of it being created during World War II. It was originally published in three volumes in 1954 and 1955 — much to Tolkien’s annoyance, since he had intended it to be a single volume. It has since been reprinted numerous times and translated into at least 38 languages, becoming one of the most popular works in 20th-century literature.

If you haven’t read the book, you should really give it a try! It changed my life completely and have not regretted a single moment.

What a story. The imagination of Tolkien is incredible

movie sucked, big time, in mine opinion.

How, Boomstam?

Boomstam
Boomstam posted about 1 year ago

well, you got a bounche of weird creatures, and they run after a ring.

and that pretty much is it.

adn posted about 1 year ago

That can pretty much resume almost any movie, someone running after a goal. :)

Oh well, fair comment; you can't please all of the people all of the time... I thought the films were very faithful to the vision of the book, myself; even in the places where they changed things (for good reason, in my judgment); but if the story itself doesn't catch your interest, it's not going to win.

adn, I pretty much agree with your view.

I'm not really into fantasy worlds like this. harry potter wouldn't i like either.

Finrod
Finrod posted about 1 year ago

I liked the first three Harry Potter books, but the fourth one starts so drearily that I haven't finished it yet. The films don't appeal to me as much as the Lord of the Rings does.

But there again, H.P. hasn't entranced me for years like Tolkien's writing has.

Boomstam
Boomstam posted about 1 year ago

I never read books like H.P.
It has to have some sort of facts in it. Books like the kite runner by Khaled Hosseini an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kite_Runner and Left behind by Tim LaHaye http://www.leftbehind.com/

The bernini mystery and the Davinci code are also examples of such books. Only i didn't finished The Davinci code since it was full of false facts. The things i know about davinci and chrisianity made me very clear about that. The bernini mystery is diffrent and i liked that one better.

I loved the movie, but I love fantasy worlds like the LOTR one. All those HUGE wars... oh well! :)
You seem to like more earth to earth movies and books, which is also nice. :)
Finrod
Finrod posted about 1 year ago
Steady there, Boomstam! You'll end up with the excruciating tautology 'true facts' if you're not careful. But I know what you mean.
Boomstam
Boomstam posted about 1 year ago

I know, but its with the perspective how you read a book. for example: The book about Left Behind, the writer never written the story bassed on how the future will look like, but how you can intepretate the bible bassed on how the future might become. Fiction based on facts. The davinci code is diffrent, Dan brown never claimed to wrote fiction, but facts into a story. This made me stop reading it half way. Hope i maked it clear to you?

Well adn, i know LOTR is a movie that people really can love, nothing wrong with that i would be the last person telling a other he can't like the movie. Ow i do really like a bit SF too, and warcraft (and the world of it before the mmorpg) But LOTR is maybe to much for me.

SF? Sorry! :x
I never explored warcraft BTW, I never had the curiosity or something but I do have lots of friends that are into it. Maybe one day I'll check it! :)

I can’t believe that anyone could read the entire book series without shooting themselves in the face out of boredom.

I like fantasy, but the movies were rather insipid as well.

To read the Lord of the Rings, one must have intelligence and imagination to comprehend it.
And I must say, I hate when someone say that the hobbits are gay. Why is it? Because they hugged each other, or shared their feelings to each other? For God's sake...

Anyway, I love it, the film, the book alike. What ever you say, Aragorn is the best. ;)
