EXPERIMENT OR LIFE CHANGE? This is a project to find out what the human spirit is really all about.  This is the type of project that is so easy to participate in, to fall in love letter, and unfortunately forget about without the most miniscule absolute devotion.  Let's call it an experiment and all try it! There is a very huge difference between want and need.  The goal of this project is not only to force people to realize the difference, but to act upon a NEED they see every day in their communities.

 CHANGE THE WORLD.

Whether it is a single mother of four that comes up a quarter short at the register in the grocery store or it is a stray dog hobbling down the side of the road as you pass in your car, or even if it is something as simple as a pile of trash on a side street in a small town -- these are things we can change easily.  They're very small steps towards a greater good.  It could be something that would be the slightest of effort for most of us.  An act that would be seen by no one except those involved and not really thought about a day or two later.  Yet it's the small steps that could literally change our communities if done by the masses.

CHANGE THE WORLD.

The project has three phases that are very important.  Once a person has devoted themselves to The Invisible Hand Project it is hopeful that they will become addicted to recognizing this need and acting upon.

PHASE ONE -- THE GREEN PHASEIt is very simple.  Recognize need.  NEED is definitely a four letter word because we have become numb to it and how devastating it can be to those it affects.  So the first phase of the project is just to recognize need.  No one has to do a thing but open their eyes and realize that there are others out there worse off and that can be assisted by very small acts of kindness.  It doesn't take huge leaps in effort, because need is everywhere we go and we see at a thousand times a day.

PHASE TWO-- THE YELLOW PHASEIt's not very complicated.  Now that you've recognized the need that is out there one must act upon it.  But as I said, one might see need a thousand times a day, all the yellow phase asks you to do is act upon it once a month.  Just one time every 30 days or you have to pick up that piece of trash or we need to pass along some spare change to someone that needs it.  To recognize need an act upon it once every four weeks.  If we all decide to do it what kind of changes will make in one year?

PHASE THREE -- THE RED PHASEIt becomes second nature.  Now that you've recognized need and now that you've act on it a dozen times I ask you step it up a notch.  Once a week, just one time every seven days I ask that you reach out and connect with something or something that makes the world better.  Nobody has to see you do it.  You never have to talk about it.  You just do it.  And you can feel better about yourself.  If we all decide to do it what kind of changes will it make in one more year?

CHANGE THE WORLD

At some point in the near future stickers will come available for free.  But as of right now all we have is stickers that have to be purchased.  This also goes along with the plain sight anonymity of the project.  The stickers are simple; one in green symbolizing the first phase of the project, the yellow recognizing the second phase of the project, and finally the red symbolizing the third phase of the project.  The green sticker is for you.  Put it on whatever you want.  Put it on your backpack, your laptop, your car, or anything to remind you to recognize need and that you have become part of The Invisible Hand. The yellow sticker is for your hometown.  Put it somewhere in your hometown where it is obscure, something that everyone might not notice but they would see.  Something that they would question from time to time about exactly what it was, it could be something out of place that would catch someone's eye.The red sticker is for the exotic.  It's for the place that you love the most in the world.  When you're on vacation in a city in the Midwest -- put it up somewhere.  When you visit your grandparents for Thanksgiving find a street corner that has a barren telephone pole that cries out for a little color and mystery.  Put it in those places.

WHY STICKERS?Just like I want to make a change in each person that joins this project and to change the world -- I want everyone in the project to realize that a small group of people can do it.  Two years, three years, five years from now I would like someone who joined the IHP to be backpacking in Europe and trek across the city square in some small township and see something they recognize him and remember.  I would like someone that has made a change in their life and join the Peace Corps to be in a small village in Southeast Asia and see something on the back of a rickshaw that sparks a memory.  I'd like for someone to be in a small town in the North Pacific United States on their way to hiking and a kid pass by with a sticker on the backpack of nothing but a green circle with the outline of a hand.  I want all those people to know that we changed the world and that we can do it again just by picking up a piece of paper. WHY TRY? And this is a test of numbers, of change, and of the human spirit.  It is a test of what one person can do.  It is a test of what we all can do together.  It does not take presidents and prime ministers to change the world, it doesn't take millions of dollars, it doesn't take a lifelong struggle, however it can be accomplished with very small acts to accomplish gigantic goals that can CHANGE THE WORLD.  It doesn't matter if you're male or female, black or white, gay, straight, rich, or poor.  You see, when you have need you don't care where the hand comes from and you don't care what color it is -- it's the invisible hand and it can change the world.
