Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli (played by Henry Winkler) in the American sitcom “Happy Days”. Fonzie started out as a fringe character but quickly evolved into the focal point of the series. His character became best friend to the main character, Richie Cunningham, displacing the character originally intended for that relationship. Winkler’s billing in the credits rose all the way to second (he refused to go before Ron Howard, the star) and then first, after Howard left the show to pursue directing. At one point, network executives even hoped to call the show “Fonzie’s Happy Days” LOL

Sadly enough my father looked like Arthur Fonzarelli when he was in high school… he even claims that Henry Winkler modelled the character after him.

Just a question: Was John Travolta’s character in “Grease” inspired by him?? Which came first BTW ? :p sorry..

Both Fonzie and Danny were modeled after stereotypes of the more rebellious teenagers from the late 50s- early 60s(“greasers”), as was Johnny Depp’s character in “Cry Baby”. Just like any movie/TV show about teenagers to this day. None of the three were necessarily based of of each other.

And as per your other question, Grease’s original release date as a Broadway musical was 1971 (though the film didn’t come out until 1978) and Happy Days ran from 1974 to 1984.
