The Beautiful South were a quintessentially British outfit formed in 1989, led by vocalists Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway, and along the way female leads Briana Corrigan, Jacqueline Abbott and Alison ‘Lady’ Wheeler. Their songs typically focused on the foibles and ironies of day-to-day living, relationship issues and the sweet sting of alcohol. A frank, witty and consistently critically-acclaimed outfit, the group decided to split in early 2007 ‘due to musical similarities’. They are best known for their hits ‘A Little Time’, ‘Song For Whoever’, ‘Perfect 10’, ‘Don’t Marry Her’, ‘Rotterdam (or Anywhere)’ and ‘36D’.
Heaton and Hemingway have since released solo material (the former under the name ‘Biscuit Boy (AKA Crackerman)’, the latter earlier this year following the BS’ breakup).
