The Beatles were a rock and pop band from Liverpool, England that formed in 1960. During their career, the group primarily consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and skiffle, the group worked with different musical genres, ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, style and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. After the band broke up in 1970, all four members embarked upon successful solo careers.
The Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music, selling over one billion records internationally. In the United Kingdom, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one, earning more number one albums (15) than any other group in UK chart history. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries; their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion records worldwide.According to the Recording Industry Association of America, The Beatles have sold more albums in the United States than any other band. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Beatles number one on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. According to that same magazine, The Beatles' innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s, and their influence on pop culture is still evident today. In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of top-selling Hot 100 artists to celebrate the chart's fiftieth anniversary; The Beatles topped it.

That is so true, Nick!
The father of all music… My friend got me hooked up on them.. they are the best..
No way!! Beatles songs are also great lyrically! Take “Let it be” for example.
There is one thing which amazes me… I’ve been listening to their songs since I was a child, but – unless other music – I am never tired of them.
ditto. i love the beatles.
“Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see”
i really like their album ‘revolver’...
BEST BAND TO EVER LIVE EVER! WERD.
Yeeep, gotta love the British.
I think the reason why I can never stop listening to the Beatles is because of the diversity of their music. When I get tired of other bands, I put the record away for a few months and move on to something else. When I get tired of say, early Beatles stuff, I just start listening to their folk-rock stuff and then psychedelic stuff, then rock 'n' roll revival stuff...
And through it all the songs maintain that beautiful pop mastery that can only be attained by musicians (and a producer) perfectly in tune with each other and what is appealing to the ear.
I could not agree more, spider!!!
Their songs still sound so fresh.... it's like discovering them everytime...
;)
Some people think this is an old band and that we should live in the precent, but they don't realise that this is one of the greatest bands ever.
Well, let's say The Beatles DO suck lyrically (I don't think they do, but) at least they wrote their own lyrics! That was a huge thing back then!
Anyone see Paul & Ringo (& Olivia & Yoko) on Larry King a few weeks back? It was jokes. Larry called Ringo George & asked Olivia what 'Something' meant to her. Larry, George wrote 'Something' for Pattie... ya know.... his first wife.... Asides from that he asked drab questions.
My favorite part of the Larry King interview:
King: Ringo, what makes Paul such a great musician?
Ringo: He plays his bass melodically.
King: What does that mean?
Ringo: He's melodic.
I started laughing out loud (in my apartment by myself). Go Ringo! Don't let Larry King keep asking stupid questions.
Hollywoodchuck: regarding the lyrics, I disagree…. if early Beatles songs are not so great in terms of lyrics, from 1965 on, there were lots of great songs with great lyrics. Eleanor Rigby, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, The Fool On The Hill, do I need to go on? :)
they're gonna be on the top forevermore!!!!!
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes.
There beneath the blue suburban skies
i love their music… and them, too… ^^ letitbe
Clarabella, you disagree that I think they don't suck lyrically? I think we agree. I said, "let's say The Beatles DO suck lyrically (I don't think they do, but)..." so I agree, the lyrics were good.
P.S. Your name amuses me, for one of my nicknames is Carlabelle. Quite similar.
"id like to be, under the sea, in an octopus's garden in the shaaaaddddeeee…..."
man octopus' garden is like my faveeeeeeeeeeeeee! hahahah sick sick fuckin song wow!!!!!!!!
One of my favorites is Michelle.
agreed
Hollywoodchuck: I am sorry, I did not pay full attention to your comment. Of course we agree. ;)
Clarabella is of course one of my nicknames too.... Is Carlabelle French?
My mom's name is Carla… yyeaeahhh idk, just thought I'd say that.
Carlabelle may be French, I don't know, it's just a nickname.
Back to the Beatles... I recently heard Glass Onion for the 1st time... I like it.
Wow, Glass Onion is one of those 'hidden' precious gems you have to find out!!
;)
BEST OF THE BEST
I like the beatles too, but I mean, it's all a matter of preference. There's no "#1 band". If someone doesn't like them, that's ok, you shouldn't make fun of them.
The majority of people who do not like the Beatles, have never listened to the whole of their music, and especially less famous songs. There is also a minority who know them quite well and actually do not like them ;)
g0sh there legend!.... :D even my m0m l0ves them….
somebody must get more people onto best stuff to vote the beatles as bestest band ever!!!
so spread the word!!!
Absolutely agree, Blackbird…. (fly….blackbird….fly…into the light of a dark black night) ;)
The Beatles.com today announced that the Movie "HELP" will be relised on DVD on Oct. 29 (Oct 30 in US), Yaah, Finally!
Hehe Help is sooo funny!!
I'm British,
I'm an Indie dj
And I have to say...
The Beatles are the most over-rated band ever to have wlaked the face of the earth. I've got most of the Beatles albums - they're crap - wake-up you lot!
Yeah, of course. And Shakespear is the most over-rated playwriter ever.
I'm American,
I'm a Rock 'n' Roll DJ
And I have to say...
The Beatles are the best band ever! Indie music, with all the different styles and genres that many groups use, sometimes on one record, would not be possible without the Beatles proving it was commercially viable.
I am Italian,
I am a musician
And I have to say...
You British should be proud of the Beatles!!! if you think they are over-rated, then I will start saying that Michelangelo is over-rated too, an perhaps Leonardo Da Vinci as well - as everyone keeps telling me about them for they are Italian.
Learn to love your best export!! Be grateful they made British rock music the best in the world.
and i thought our best export was the language and also bringing civilisation to half the world
Civilization, hump
Nope it was 'The Beatles'
Yeah, Yeah Yeahhhhh!
Sadd, I think it was the Beatles who brought the language and rock revolution to half the world, perhaps... ;)
Hey would you count songs by John Lennon or Ringo Starr 'by The Beatles'? Like, 'Imagine' for example. It's by John Lennon, but it's on The Beatles CD. What are your thoughts??
I would count any thing past the 1970 release of 'Let It Be' as a post Beatles piece. I would include also 'Give Piece A Chance'— credited to Lennon/Mccartney, but only John played on it.
Alright, works for me.
JUST THE BEST BAND IN THE WHOLE WORLD EVER. THE BEATLES JUSTIFY MY LIFE. THERE'S NO MORE TO SAY:
LIKE IT OR FUCK OFF!
yayy
what are they?
