The Ashes is a Test cricket series, played between England and Australia – it is international cricket’s oldest and most celebrated rivalry dating back to 1882. It is currently played approximately biennially, alternately in England and Australia. The Ashes are “held” by the country which last won a series and to “regain” them the other country must win more Test matches in a series than the country that “holds” them. If a series is “drawn” then the country holding the Ashes retains them. The last Ashes series was played in England in 2005 when England regained The Ashes after a gap of 16 years by winning the series 2-1.

We are going to get slaughtered this time around….
I agree we’ll Probably lose. Though, if Ashley Giles plays instead of Monty Panesar I’ll throw myself of the nearest bridge…
I’m pretty sure Monty will play. Giles was never that good and he’s just back from injury. I’ve seen the Australian bowling line up and it just looks too good.
I just watched the first hour. We were predictably bad. Harmison was first on to bowl and i thought first ball is going to be wide. And it was. In fact it was so wide the slips could barely catch it. And Monty isn’t playing. The score will be 400 for 2 when i get up in the morning. That’s my prediction….
Well it’s 3:45am and it’s still looking pretty poor (169-2). I’m a little surprised the ball has done so little, and only Flintoff looks like taking a wicket, sadly. Anyway, I’m off to bed before Nasser Hussain comes back on commentary :P
It was 346 for 3 at the end of the first days play. They are going to score 600 and skittle England for 300. England have 5 bowlers, 3 are just coming back from injury and 1 is out of sorts, its hopeless…
End of the third day. Australia irritatingly continue to bat even though they are about 600 runs ahead. I’m off to slit my wrists, It’s too embarrassing…
My prediction from a couple of days was slightly awry. Australia did get 600, but England got 157 rather than 300. I should have known they would be worse than i’d imagined…
The second test has gone according to plan so far. Now that’s a surprise!
Australia 357 for 4 (At tea). quaternions, I suspect you’re weeping at the loss of the ashes… Anyway, it’s 7:30am, I’m off to blanket street. To cry myself to sleep. :’-(
I think i knew we’d loose the ashes when i saw the first half hours play in the first test. We even managed to lose the second test from an unloseable situation…at least Monty got a game and showed why Giles should never play again…
