t.A.T.u. (Russian: Тату, Tatu; pronounced [ta-too]) is a Russian pop music duo consisting of Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova. The group was formed in 1999 by producer Ivan Shapovalov, in Moscow. t.A.T.u. by far are the most successful international recording artists from Russia, with a fan base stretching all over the world, and their songs reaching #1 positions, including their hit “All the Things She Said.” Their debut album was the first to reach gold status on an international basis from Russia and has gone platinum in many countries since. In the early years of the group, they were marketed as a lesbian duet. However, in December 2003, it became apparent on their reality show Anatomy of t.A.T.u. that their sexuality was only part of the group’s gimmick. In the time since, the group released set of second albums in English and Russian, left Universal records, and most recently, announced a film to be shot in 2007. (Wikipedia)
