Reira (Layla) the songstress and the bassist, Takumi of Trapnest are characters in the rockin' anime, NANA.
Takumi and Reira go WAY back--all the way to their elementary days! Reira (she's half) came from America with her mother to live in Japan. Living right across from the year-older Takumi, the two became fast friends. Little by little Takumi would reluctantly teach Reira japanese, while she in turn would teach him English. A significant addition to their youthful friendship was Reira's singing. She would always sing around Takumi, who secretly cherished every moment of it. As they grew older, the two created a band with Takumi as the leader and bassist, Reira as the singer and a newcomer, Naoki to be the drummer. During their childhood and high school days as well, Reira developed a strong liking to Takumi (she even gave him a small kiss). But to Takumi, who would mess around with other girls, never touched her. To Takumi, he wanted to keep Reira untainted since he cared for her too much(even though he always covered it with his rough/nonchalant exterior)--This pained Reira since she wanted him to be serious with her. When Takumi's mother was strictly ill, Reira would sing to her in the hospital, and for that Takumi was thankful and realized that his mother wouldn't have lived if it wasn't for Reira. Soon later, Reira, edging away from her fruitless crush on Takumi, became interested in Yasu (baldy haha), a friend of Takumi's and later the future drummer of NANA's Black Stones. Upon realizing this, Takumi's irritation and will to keep Reira pure was overcoming him.

Takumi: "A blinding angel that must never be soiled. Reira was my...Sanctuary. In this soiled floating world, I at least wanted one place like that."
