Sukiyaki (鋤焼; すき焼き; スキヤキ)-consists of meat (like thinly sliced beef), and is slowly cooked at the table, with other ingredients such as vegetables, and tofu, in a shallow iron pot or ceramic hotpot with lid, in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and mirin (cooking sake). Before being eaten, the ingredients are usually dipped in a small bowl of raw, beaten eggs. Sukiyaki is commonly eaten during the fall and winter year, and is made at bōnenkai (Japanese year-end parties).
