Mostly. Certain anime is great dubbed. Like Eureka Seven, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Panic, Cowboy Bebop, and others.

I think it is unfair to say they are 'bad dubs'. Everyone that works on an Anime works HARD to make it right. The Japanese are better, but you have to remember, it is not easy converting one language into another language – why does that matter you ask? Laungage also affects how the voice acting sounds. At least, that's my view. Most English cartoons have bad acting no matter if they are dubbed or orignally in English. We can't have simply bad actors, so it must be the lingo. I have yet to find a bad acting Japanese anime (in its original Japanese).

I usually HATE dubs, but I've gotta admit, I thought the dub for FLCL was great. Whoever was doing Haruko sounded just like her original seiyuu! And everyone else was good except for Naota. Shame :(

I've just read Cadao's comment, and let me go a bit off topic then.

Why are some films dubbed? I mean, I even understand if it's cartoons (some animes as well), simply because kids can't read, but why the others? Puns, songs, everything loses the original meaning. At least with subtitles you can sort of get what they're saying, and associate with your own language, even learn a bit of vocabulary. And even if you don't know a word of that language, there's always the expression in their voice, the tone related to body language. I can't get it, really.

Part of the trouble with dubbed versions is that people tend to think they're cartoons because they get edited for stuff like gore and language. Try watching One Piece dubbed then subbed. Huge difference.

I prefer subtitled to dubbed, because I like to hear their original voices

I like subbed animes, but sometimes I'm so used to the dubbed version that I can't watch subbed, like Dragonball Z for instance.
