A venerable NYC institution. Strand Bookstore is an independent used bookstore located in Greenwich Village at the corner of East 12th & Broadway. The store occupies three and a half floors, and is home to the city’s largest collection of rare books; it’s also a contender for the title of world’s largest used bookstore. For anyone who has checked out their massive collection of used, out-of-print, and overstock books, their “18 miles of books” slogan seems like only a slight exaggeration.

Oh, my.....
I'll have to pop across the Pond and check this out one day! Do they do sheet music, perchance?
They do, although perhaps not in huge quantities. I agree that good vendors of sheet music are much too hard to find.
Virtually impossible, I'd say. Banks Music in York - 100 miles from me - is the best bet if I really want to find something. Though a lot of sheet music that's out of copyright is now available on the Web. I re-acquired Holst's The Planets this way recently.
18 miles of shelves... It'd take all day just to walk briskly past all their stock, never mind actually stop and browse. Oh, I must see it!
I love Strand. :) Best place in the City…. :::Drool::: so many books!!!!
Strand has an online store Finrod, maybe you could check it out before you hop on a plane. http://www.strandbooks.com/
