Star gazing is funner alone, says I.

Oh yes… it’s always nice for a little “alone” time, too.

Vano

Don’t be disgusting.

NomiLove

Why is staring at the stars while you’re alone disgusting? Sometimes it’s nice to have a little solitude.

Hah! hahahahahahahahaha.. dies

Vano, I think you may be foul.

Or maybe I’m the foul one.

Who was it who said… what was it.. oh, nevermind. I’m just going to go to sleep now.

Dream of the stars, Marmoset. :)

I can find the big/little dippers, but it is so peaceful to stare off into space and contemplate the meaning of existence, and for that matter life. Did I leave the iron on???

Exactly!

Marmoset, I think you’re my favorite. It makes me happy to amuse you. So… um, thank you.

I’m not sure I believe anything you say. That’s not bad, of course. Makes life more interesting.

I’m sincere. You’ll know when I’m being sarcastic.

Has to be miles from the nearest lighting. The difference, combined with letting your night vision develop, is astonishing. The best opportunity I ever made use of was a glorious night with my telescope, years ago in Cumbria; I understood then the German phrase “die gestirnte Nacht” (the night, bedecked with stars) and the beauty that goes with the Tolkien name Elrond, meaning the vault of stars.

Simply wonderful. Don’t know why.

I’d have to agree with Nimble and Nomi. Stargazing is best when done in solitude and silence. A very peaceful feeling.

Its good to see one of “mine” getting a few comments. I prefer to sit out with a friend. Gazing across the cosmos can make for some conversations at the deep and meaningful end of the spectrum, which can be mildly embarrassing in the morning. (Can depend on the volume of wine!) Or you can just sit in contented silence….

It's best when you feel like your life has meaning so that you can jump back to taking the Nihilistic approach.

Nihilistic approach?

Yes.

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

what is the Nihilistic approach exactly??

Vano
Vano posted about 1 year ago

Nihilism is a word which can be found in almost any dictionary, and I wouldn't want to stand in the way of your quest for knowledge. That's the fun in life that takes you away from the utter random pointless cruelty. If you don't look it up, you might as well kill yourself because there is nothing, and it is inevitable that we will be pulled back in to human drama no matter what we do!

Wow Vano, get a little off your chest why don't you.

And I did look it up so :P

>>Vano- I admit I am skeptical about many things, one should possess a little skepticism about certain things, it keeps from falling for "everything under the sun". But there are also cases when you feel strongly about something that you have a certain passion for it. If you're wondering, I did look up nihilism and found it a pretty wxtreme outlook on life, my thought was why give up on things when those very things can be changed rather than leave them in someone elses hands. Our political system (American) allows choices to vote for candidates whom you think fit best with your beliefs, religion has many denominations to choose from, or choose to follow your own personal beliefs. Smile

Hey, how did stargazing come to this anyway? Stargazing gives me a certain peace that can only be obtained by looking deep into the night-sky, dare I say I feel one with the universe?

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

wow look at Geoffery going and getting all deep on us! Smile

No but seriously I have to agree with you on this subject, well minus the whole voting system I think ours needs to be tweaked slightly because politicians are so corrupt now-a-days.

But anyways i find it amazinf that the stars that I am gazing at tonight could be burned out by now and I'm seeing their light from like a year ago!

MastaKink
MastaKink posted about 1 year ago

gbman, you wouldn't dare!

gbman

Well, I thought if I were going to get deep in a subject why not stargazing? I do my best deep thinking when I look up at the stars. I like how they sparkle and twinkle. No wait, that's me blinking. Wink
dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

2 Kink: Now tell me waht exactly do you stand for in this stargazing convo?

2 Geoffery: It's easy to become deep when looking at the stars, because they are part of the deepest thing I know to exsist, the universe. Laughing

It's like watching a sunset, beautiful and also a good example of our wonderful universe at work.

NomiLove

I keep nervously searching the sky for that comet that is supposed to destroy the Earth… oh wait…. that’s not until 2036. Nevermind. ;)

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

I like sunrises more than sunsets. Sunsets seem so... endish, that isn't a word but you get what I mean.

2 Nomi: Well nothing like turning a peaceful thing like star gazing into a stressful event. :(

Hey, I let the comet comment slide. Sealed

>> Steph, this is for you http://bestuff.com/stuff/sunrise , better get voting, sunrise is lagging behind sunset about 2:1.

-bailey-

I believe the event Nomi refers to is presently thought to be about a 1 in 40,000 shot, if that helps ease anybody's mind. :)

NomiLove

Let’s hope so, Bailey! (An aside to GB: You are always a gentleman, dear.)

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

2 Nomi: Indeed I do believe that men out number women on this sight because I almost am always commenting to a man about a subject instead of a women.Laughing

2 Geoffery: Thanks for the link, and I find it ironic that you speak so passionatly about sunsets yet you only commented on sunrises not set. Hhhmmm maybe its your conscious telling you that you like rises better than sets?? (sorry I got tired of writing sun in front of rise and set so I shortened it)Wink

2 Bailey: As much as I like those odds I really really really really hope that one never happens.Surprised

2 Nomi (again): I do agree that Geoffery, aka gbman, is always a gentleman Smile

I need to go to a smiley face addicts meeting  *hehehe*

MastaKink
MastaKink posted about 1 year ago

I have to admit, I prefer 'sets' to 'rises' cuz usually (if i'm watching it with someone) it is followed by some sweet 'quality time' ;) but my fav. is staying up all night and watching the 'rise' before I lay me down to sleep…

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

This "quality time" that you speak of is better than both sets and rises ;)

Vano
Vano posted about 1 year ago

I'm not a Nihilist. I've said forever I take the middle path. I have been to both poles. It was an attempt at hopeless irony. I am happy my comment sparked so much feedback though. See how every tiny thing is meaningful in some way? That's the butterfly effect my friends, and here's where the Nihilism comes in: but it isn't that meaningful, because after all, we are insignificant in a pointless universe, and now for the existentialism: but we create meaning through the ways we choose to live, seeking solutions to the problems that spark angst within our very souls, lest we waste the life that was wasteless.

We are all made up of the same! Everything! But in between are cracks. More molecules to fill the cracks. More cracks. More molecules..... See how there's Truth in everything? Cast away your ignorant beliefs, although they shape society, your own existential situation remains in turmoil!

gbman
gbman posted about 1 year ago

I beleive in existentialism in that we should all be free to live our lives as we see fit. But I draw the line at the notion we are insignificant, we are here on earth to make a difference, to make a mark on civilization. Each of us is different, it is those differences that make us significant. One of the songs on the "Hair" soundtrack begins with a quote and it is perfect for this discussion; it says (I am paraphrasing):

"Kids, do whatever you want to do, be whoever you want to be, just so long as you don't hurt anybody"

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted about 1 year ago

Have you guys ever seen the movie 'Crash' ? Well it has very much to do with how people go about living their day to day lives and how they all think that the others are insignificant yet they all significantly change the other characters path or future in some way.

The quotes ok but I like this one  "<font>The more I look around and listen I realize that I'm not alone. We are all facing choices that define us. No choice. However messy is without importance in the overall picture of our lives. We all at our own age have to claim something, even if it's only our own confusion."</font>

Vano
Vano posted about 1 year ago

You can draw the line anywhere you want to, but if the Earth will one day perish (look to Venus to see it's future) and the sun will one day burn out, in the grand scheme of things, we are insignificant. However, it's just as Kierkegaard or Buddha focus on: If a man is wounded by a poison arrow, he doesn't sit and ponder where it came from, why it's here or what's it's purpose.
