My Mum used to make it with real suet. It was rolled in a tea towel and steamed over a saucepan. When ready. it was cut into slices that fitted in the pudding bowl and hot thick yellow, vanilla tasting custard was poured over the top. It was filling, it was the 50’s and 60’s it was great.
