My musical formative teenage years were from the mid-70’s onwards. While all around me were choosing punk and new-wave, I was immersing myself in the prog-rock acts of the day; Genesis, Yes, Floyd, Camel, Kansas, Rush and many more.
By the 90’s I assumed that nobody was making that kind of music anymore, but around 2000 this bunch of Americans came to my attention. If you like any of the classic bands I’ve mentioned above, you will definitely like Spock’s Beard. With nine studio albums to date, they have a back catalogue brimming with perfectly crafted compositions, ranging from four minute pop songs to 20+ minute anthemic epics. Fans of melodic guitar solos, virtuoso drumming and liberal helpings of Hammond, Mellotron and Moog will not be disappointed.
Best of all, they tour regularly (in Europe right now), playing small to medium size venues with low ticket prices.
