This film, based on the book by Alessandro Barrico, is about a young married man in 19th-century France who has to make several dangerous trips to Japan to get silkworms and their eggs in order to bring prosperity to his village. While in Japan, he becomes obssessed with the concubine of a Japanese warlord. Michael Pitt stars in the movie, and Keira Knightley plays his wife.
