Shojo Beat is a shōjo manga magazine published in North America by VIZ Media. The female counterpart to Shonen Jump, Shojo Beat is targeted toward older teenage girls, hence the magazine's "T+" (meaning 16 and over) rating. The word "shojo" means "girl" in Japanese.
Shojo Beat began serialization in August 2005, featuring Nana Komatsu of NANA on its cover. Since then, the magazine has undergone numerous changes in its development, such as introducing Moko the Panda as the magazine's mascot. New sections such as "Girl Hero", about girls who are making a difference; new fashion columns and a new "Beat Girl" have appeared in the serial.
