Leonardo Da Vinci studied Mathematics for a while under the tuition of Paciolis.Besting this page is a very good excuse for displaying one of the plates from "Divina Proportione"published by Paciolis in 1509 (-no prizes here for guessing the artist!)However,if I'm honest,my main reason for choosing this shape is it's amazing name!

Figure 1a. Rhombicuboctahedron drawn with "open faces" by Leonardo da Vinci (circa 1496).One of the sixty illustrations Leonardo prepared for Luca Pacioli's 1509 book De Divine Proportione.
