Red Mage is one of the original Final Fantasy character classes, able to use both White Magic and Black Magic while wielding some melee weapons as well, making them one of the most versatile classes.
Red Mage is also one of the characters of 8-Bit Theater, an online comic that parodies (among other things) the first Final Fantasy games.
