the full length BBC version, not the 2005 one

what? the film wasn’t based on the 1995 BBC version. it was based on the book. obviously.

I find it impossible to believe the recent film was based on the BBC series. If it had been based on the TV series, rather than having been created by a bunch of lackwits with only a passing familiarity with the book, it wouldn’t have sucked so badly.

The latest movie hyped romance and slighted satire and irony-which came through beautifully in BOTH the latest full-length BBC productions. What a shame to reduce Mr. Collins-a deliciously ridiculous character in the novel—to a few lines in the film. Without the social satire, Austen is reduced to romance lite. A shame, despite the good acting.

The BBC version is so much better than the 2005 version! Keira Knightley as Elizabeth?!?

Keira Knightley is never Elizabeth!? She played the character of Elizabeth Bennet so terrible and unbelievable. No charme !

The worst thing to happen to this novel is to have Keira Knightley play Elizabeth.

I’m only half way through it, but it’s already one of my faves.

Ah, the book was excellent. As was the BBC series.

I only saw parts of the new movie in English class, but my problem wasn’t so much with Keira Knightley as much as Matthew Macfayden. He had no edge at all—Darcy isn’t supposed to be a wimp! (Of course, not that Colin Firth’s shoes were ever easy to fill.)

I agree, the 2005 movie was crap compared to the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle BBC Version, which I loved.

I've always said this, and I'll say it again: Keira Knightley was an exceedling poor choice for the part of Elizabeth, if only for that fact that she too modern a body shape.  She's far too thin (even by todays standards, really) and has no bosom to speak of - both of which add up to uncomely in the eyes of the gentry in those days.

I watch the BBC version all the time. Probably a lot more than I'd ever watch anything else 6 hours….I love it. I just got it for Christmas! I can't wait to watch it again.
