Piplup is one of the three starting Pokémon in the most recent editions, Diamond and Pearl. Piplup is a water-based Pokémon, similar to Squirtle in the first generation videogames, though is characterised by it's bird nature, something that continues as it evolves into both Prinplup and Empoleon.
