In "The Amazing Spider-Man" film, after being bitten by that spider at OsCorp, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), is astonished, as well as understandably frightened, by his sudden new abilities. Instead of being klutzy, as he'd previously been all his life, Peter is now nimble, agile, and very strong. Not to mention he can stick to the ceiling!
Of course, everyone else on that subway car is shocked, too, but none more so than Peter himself. It's the beginning of Peter Parker's new life as Spider-Man.

Also, I couldn't help noticing that, as teenage outsider Peter Parker, he's shy and awkward, whereas as Spider-Man, he has quite a snarky sense of humor. What I mean to say is that, when Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man, he seems to gain not only his new superpowers but also a new and very welcome sense of self-confidence – which even superheroes need.
