Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE (born 18 June 1942) is an Academy Award and Grammy Award winning English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who first gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. McCartney and John Lennon formed one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships and "wrote some of the most popular music in rock and roll history." On leaving The Beatles, McCartney launched a successful solo career and formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda McCartney. He has worked on film scores, classical music, and ambient/electronic music; released a large catalogue of songs as a solo artist; and taken part in projects to help international charities.
McCartney is listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular-music history, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles. His song "Yesterday" is listed as the most covered song in history and has been played more than 7,000,000 times on American television and radio. Wings' 1977 single "Mull of Kintyre" became the first single to sell more than two million copies in the UK, and remained the UK's top seller until surpassed, in 1984, by Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" whose participants included McCartney.
His company MPL Communications owns the copyrights to more than three thousand songs, including all of the songs written by Buddy Holly, along with the publishing rights to such musicals as Guys and Dolls, A Chorus Line, and Grease. Aside from his musical work, McCartney is a painter and an advocate for animal rights, vegetarianism, and music education; he is active in campaigns against landmines, seal culls and Third World debt. McCartney was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1965, and was knighted in 1997.

Sir Paul is the best among the best!!! No doubt he is the Best Musician, Best Singer-Composer, Best Beatle…
A genius musican ever. Best musician, best singer/composer, Best Bass Player of all times..
The greatest musician, greaterst singer/composer, greatest bass guitarist, best beatle and best solo artist
He is the best all musicians….
Paul is still alive, so why does he have the “best celebrity to resurrect…” category? That should go to John and George.
Though I have heard there are some who still believe the “Paul is Dead” thing
Mmmm Paul
Sir Paul is alive… Hopefully he will live a thousands years to go…
How can you people dare say that Paul McCartney is the best bass player of all time? That is just ridiculous! Songwriter, yeah, he’s up there. But his bass playing is nothing more than elementary! Sting has so much more going on than McCartney and he’s still not as influential or creative as Jaco. Do yourselves a favor and listen to “Donna Lee” or “Heavy Weather” by Weather Report. Damn….
only fools say that he is not the best..
How could you say Sir is not influential? Ask Sting personally if who influence him, surely you’ve got an answer that he is influence by Paul Mccartney.. By the way, how dare you to compare a bright shining sun to a little twinkling star?
If sir Paul is only at elementary in his bass playing skill. Im sorry to tell you that Sting bass playing skill, melodic sensibility and song writing capability is nothing more than a 1 month old musician.
not only he and the beatles inspires other great musicians, but the simplicity of their songs makes their songs so unique.
Man, Krudnic is just silly. You really don’t know what you’re talking about. McCartney is one of the most innovative bass players in history. To say that McCartney’s bass playing is elementary is unworthy of reply, and to say that Sting’s basslines are more complicated than McCartney’s is just ridiculous. Many of Sting’s basslines are a total tribute to McCartney’s bass playing, and in fact the bass line in the Police’s song Fill It Up is almost totally lifted from McCartney’s bass part in day tripper. Of course there are session musician and virtuosos that are more physically talented and can play faster than McCartney, and know more about musical theory. But that could be said for anyone, even Vitous, Bailey, or Pastorius or whoever else played bass for Weather Report. But it is undeniable that Mccartney’s bass playing was more influential than any bass player that played in Weather Report to mainstream rock and roll. That is undeniable.
does it seem that he's has gone of the deep end to anyone else?
Mhh….not sure I understand what you mean Ileah?
like he would have been better off to die like the beatles? now he's just pathic
but thats just my oppion!
No, he is not pathetic...and all I can say is that it's easier to praise John and George, and make them legends, as unfortunately they died and cannot do anything which could be criticised. But sometimes people seem to forget that a human being makes mistakes, can make wonderful songs like Maybe I am Amazed and less wonderful ones like Coming Up. And because Paul is still there to be criticised - luckily - everyone enjoys doing it.
But he was and still is a genius!
right on Nick, I couldn't have said it better.
I am glad you agree.
And believe me, I am speaking as a John and George fan. I love all of them 4, really.
Yeah, Paul has made so much good music that I can forgive the few off songs he did. I really like his Flying Pie Album, kinda about some things that John said.
Oh yeah, Flaming Pie. Definitely.
That's a 1997 album, and it's very good. There are excellent songs, like Some Days or I Can See the World Tonight, and Souvenir. I love Souvenir, it's so bluesy and Paul sings very well.
Sorry, Flaming Pie, I like the song that has the lyric, 'I'm so far behind that I'm in front of me", I feel like that every once in a while. lol
And that's 'The World Tonight', one of my favourite too... I love it!
Thanks, and Ringo and Steve Miller is on there with him too. So yes very good album!
True. Ringo and Paul are still good friends!
i love 'em all!
Paul McCartney is not doubt the best vocalist ever. He composed and sang songs ranging from Helter Skelter& Get Back to Hey Jude, Let It Be & Blackbird. He is also the best Beatle and best solo artist.
He will only really be seen for his true greatness when he is no longer with us. people seem to not want to see how great he is because he makes it look so easy. He is a gift, a great musical talent and i am so glad i lived in his lifetime to witness and enjoy the ride. thanks paul, i love your nusic and your attitude and energy for your music, thanks for still performing . the problem with paul is he was so great when in his prime people just take that for granted . he is still great but he was incredible in his prime, Hard act to live up to yourself. Thanks for all the joy and happiness you have given to millions of fans around the world, sorry it will have to end someday but the music will live on forever. so many different types of songs he can write, just incredible to have that much talent in one man. the beatles had him and also john lennon and of course george harrison, what a lineup of talent, we will never see this again ,i really doubt it. to bad they could not have got back together in the 80s or 90s or 70s or 2000s to have made a few more masterpeices together. Ringo was great to.
