Nobby's Beach

Nobby’s Beach is in Port Macquarie on NSW mid-coast. This beach was the scene for most of my best childhood memories. There is a tidal rock pool about the size of a bath tub with a sandy bottom. I loved swimming in there as a child. When I got older I started swimming in the surf. Nobby’s is great for body surfing but shithouse for boards on account of all the rocky bits. This is great if you love body surfing because there is no chance of having your face sliced off by the fin of a rogue board.. Also, there is a huge rock in the middle of the beach which looks like a lion’s head. This rock is awesome for bouldering around, and is a relatively difficult climb to the top. Although I haven’t done it myself, there is a blow-hole just around th cliffs from the beach which is great for jumping into. The locals have invented degrees of difficulty ranging from “chicken shit” to “deranged” (or something like that). To top it all off, Nobby’s has a “horror” swim course. This swim takes you from a “bath” which empties as the waves go out but then floods back in over your head (near drowning), then proceeds down a channel full of seaweed and things that brush against your legs as you swim along (probably giant squid tentacles). Then you have to try and get on top of this jagged rock which is covered in slimey kelp; plant your flag, and swim back… needless to say this is the scariest thing EVER!
