Nim Chimpsky (November 19th, 1973 - March 10th, 2000) was a chimp who was raised in a human environment and was taught American Sign Language. He learned many signs and their meanings despite the fact that some people doubted chimps were capable of learning any kind of human language. Nim tragically died at age twenty-six of a heart attack. In 2011 a documentary film about him, called Project Nim, was released. Also, a book by Elizabeth Hess, entitled "Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp who would be Human," is a book I'd like to read about Nim.
