“Mike Nichols and Elaine May revolutionized the landscape of American comedy. By perfecting the art of improvisation and introducing it to the public through their appearances in clubs and on television and radio, they forever changed our expectations of comedy, and our sense of humor.”
Mike Nichols went on to become a successful director (Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, The Graduate, Closer, Angels in America, The Birdcage, Primary Colors, these last two were also written by May). Elaine May continued acting (Enter Laughing, Luv, A New Leaf), and took up directing (Heaven Can Wait) as well as writing screenplays, many of which were uncredited, such as Tootsie.
