Newcastle United FC

Perhaps the best-loved underdogs in British football, Newcastle United (or The Magpies / Toon Army) have on so many occasions come close to being a giant of European game, but have never quite made it…. Yet.

Playing their home games at St. James Park in the centre of Newcastle in front of crowds averaging 50,000, the last major trophy the Magpies won was the Eurpean Fairs Cup way back in 1969, but since then, what can only be described as a ‘dry spell’ has meant nothing but heartbreak for the loyal following of fans; most notably the two successive FA Cup final games in 1998 & 1999 (both of which i attended….). ‘Gloryseekers’ is something that could never be attributed to the vast majority of Toon supporters.

A real football team followed by the best fans in the country; what more could you want?
