Natalie McDonald was a Canadian fan of Harry Potter. She had leukemia, and, at the request of a friend of Natalie's mother, Jo Rowling sent Natalie some unpublished information about the main characters before the release of the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Tragically, it wasn't sent to Natalie until after she'd died. Jo Rowling and Natalie's mother then became friends, and as a tribute to Natalie, Jo Rowling, in the book, made her a Hogwarts student and put her in Gryffindor, where the courageous students are Sorted. Natalie's mother didn't tell her other two children the information from Jo Rowling until after they'd already read the book of Deathly Hallows. In the British book version, Natalie's name is on page 159, and in the American version, her name is on page 180.
