I love the sound of a music box, I find them eerie and haunting and often quite melancholy. It’s such a distinct sound! I used to be fascinated by one my sister had with a ballerina rotating on top. They’d be a wonderful thing to collect, don’t you think? I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason I found them a little bit freaky was because of their use in pop culture – Bjork singing Cocoon over one, the one used in Portishead’s Undenied, and, of course, the strange court scene in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
