I usually like the moon... but there was one night when I was somewhere in the mountains and it was a red full moon. gosh, that was really freaky. and we started to say ghost storyes ...I almost couldn't sleep that night.
Particles in the atmosphere can cause the Moon to appear coloured. The size of the particles (dust, ash from forest fires or volcanoes etc.) determines which parts of the white light (loosely speaking) from the Moon are scattered. Smaller particles scatter short wavelengths of light, leaving the longer wavelengths (red and orange) travelling toward your eye, making the Moon appear red.
i especially like it when its big and orangey red like blood and its close to the horizon and scarrrryyy. tis quite amusing. bahaah i sound like i have no life :/
