Mirriam is the crowd favorite to win the 49th Miss Universe (1999) held in Trinidad and Tobago. She faltered in the final question when asked if a Miss Universe should relinquish her crown if she became pregnant during her reign. Miss Botswana answered confidently and got the title, it was also their first time to send a delegate.
Back to Mirriam, She won the clairol herbal essence award (the only Asian to do so) and trip during the preliminary competition but held her poise garnering her the 2nd highest score over all.

i really don’t understand why Miss Botswana stole the title from Miss Philippines! surely, Miss Philippines kinda stutter at the final question but her answer is amazing! stupid judges!
