That is why the woman I shall love will be able to menstruate as fully and freely as she desires. Even if her monthly flow should build in intensity to a raging rust colored torrent, an awesome cataract plunging off the edge of our couch, I would not be fazed. Even if courreur de bois were to come up stream battling the rapids and singing a jaunty song, I would take no offense. Rather I would ford across that mighty womanly river and fetch her herbal tea and pamprin. And then I would mop her brow and admire her fecundity, for I have a good attitude toward menstruation.
I know it sounds weird/unsafe if you’ve not heard of this before.
In fact, women have been doing this since the pill was invented, frequently on their doctor’s advice due to painful periods or other medical conditions. It’s not any less safe than taking birth control regularly, and studies have shown that reducing the number of periods a woman experiences in this manner significantly reduces the risk of endometrial and ovarian cancer, the latter of which in the US affects one out of 40 women.
As far as “needing a clean out” goes, monophasic birth control already prevents the build up of uterine lining that leads to one having a period in the first place. The light bleeding one experiences on the Pill isn’t a real period; it’s actually an artificial reaction to withdrawal from hormones in one’s pills when one switches to the (totally inactive) blue pills for a week.
“There must be plenty of reasons…” is a great way to start off a argument. :)
Obviously, every drug has potential health risks. There are plenty of people who should not be taking the pill at all, whether it’s to avoid menstruation or to avoid pregnancy. I did not assume anyone would be taking my advice blindly to the pharmacist without doing a little reading and/or talking to a doctor first.
I have, however, done my homework; it’s kind of annoying you automatically assume otherwise.
The idea of using the pill to skip periods is not my invention, but something that many doctors advise, despite being an “off-label” use for many (highly politicized) reasons. I don’t blame you for not having heard of it. You’re a young male; your reasons for researching the topic are rather limited.
However, if you want to be sarcastic and insulting just because something you haven’t bothered to read about sounds weird to you, then you’re welcome to. In the future I’ll try not to so expect much from everyone who has added “open-mindedness” to their Best Stuff list. :p
I think that you think you know alot more about menstrating than you think you do. Anyways, you don’t have to get all worked up. I just added “motherfucker” because it’s funny to throw it on the end of a comment that doesn’t really matter. Can’t we all just get along? A topic such as “menstrating” should bring us together, not tear us apart. Let’s all join hands right here in the menstrating forum!
It makes no difference to me whether you believe a woman can safely skip having her period using the pill or not.
It is, however, a pretty neat thing that women who find their period painful, miserable, and/or psychosis-inducing have an option to explore other than staying home from work and wishing their herbal tea had a bit more morphine in it.
Comments
any female who doesnt have an opinion about this is a liar, like all females
eh…..hmz….
I don’t trust anything that bleeds for a week and docent dies … xP

Of course, it is possible to avoid menstruation entirely if you're on birth control. :)
Wow, that sounds safe.
Don’t you think you might need a clean out down there sometimes?

An excellent article on the subject is available here.
Now why don’t you tell me the other half of the story motherfucker.
Pardon?
that was a little rough
It sounds funny though.
There must be plenty of health concerns with your little method. If you say they aren’t, I’ll know you’re lying. That or your doctor is.

Anyways, my dad works at a menstrating plant, so I know all about it.
I’m not worked up.

I’m just sayin’.
I love you. The only thing I remember is “I’m just sayin’, and I love you.
