My employer won’t purchase mechanical pencils b/c they’re too expensive. Instead we have to sharpen our #2’s with an electric pencil sharpener in the supply room. I figure the company looses about 5 hours per month in productivity for each employee b/c we have to go back-and-forth from the supply room to sharpen our pencils.
I use to use REGULAR pencils…then one day I was sharpening the stick with my mini sharpener and the container that holds the shavings fell off! GRRR ! Worst of all it happened for all types whether #1, #2, #3, or #4 pencils.
Mechanics the way to go. Ya only need one and a cartridge fo mo. Slide.
I wholeheartedly agree with ClickClickSnap about complications with the mini pencil sharpeners. I’ve actually experienced issues with #5 pencils as well. In fact, one time I was rushing to sharpen my pencil to write down my phone number for someone and BAM ! the container with the shavings flew open and got all over my sweater. I’ve never been so embarrassed my entire life. What’s worse, the guy I was giving my number to never called. I’d have to say regular pencils are my archnemesis.

yesterday, when taking a test, my mechanical pencil broke. And I needed it. I took out the lead and used by itself. It broke in many pieces. Oh blast.
I insist on mechanical pencils. Specifically, Bics with .7 lead.
I don’t even use “real” pencils anymore.
0.5 is the way to go.
I can’t use .5, I always break it since I write heavily. =/
I’m mad that I can’t use mechanical pencils on my ACTs. Grrr.
