Are you kidding ? Manson the best singer ? Ha ha ha…
who is then? you?
Me.
Uh, it’s obviously Rod Stewart.
He’s the incarnation of a demon called Alabaster! Satan sent him up from hell to kill the name of Jesus Christ our savior! Children! Cover your ears! You must not follow the words of this evil evil man!
Wouldn’t that be cool if someone said that for real?
He is so awesome, he spins around to being awesome again.
Has anyone read his book?
Yes. I have. haha-rhiain.
Let’s go smoke some human bones just cos we’re bored. cough.
Marilyn Manson is awesome. Woohoo…
His music is not typical of what I usually listen too, but when I am in a certain mood, his music is really "relaxing".
I always liked him, more so at a distance because I was never extremely interested, and was always preoccupied with something else, but I was blown away when I heard "Lamb Of God". That songs taps right in to your inner core and moves shit around. Pretty trippy.
I read his biography. I was mildly surprised at his past especially how he started out not even knowing how to play an instrument. I liked Lamb of God too, and I think it's one of his better songs that's also really underrated.
"The Beautiful People" is the song that sticks in my head, I just love the beat, the guitar, what a great song. Sweet Dreams is nice too.
Just business for suburban troubled boys and girls.
I'm sorry but Marylin Manson scares the shit outta me.
I like his music and all, but I hate how people wanna be just like him, including those sheltered suburban kids that never really had to deal with any real problems. I keep having the urge to yell stop trying to follow his footsteps and just make your own. And behind the 'scary' appearance, there's a message, if sometimes mangled.
It's only appearence really, it's his style, his image. And obviously there's always followers but I don't think it's bad that someone dresses like him or similar, obscure past isn't a requirement. I like black, I actually never dress all black cause i'm too lazy to go buy some black pants (lol) and i never find great ones (i'm picky), anyway, I don't think I'll need an obscure past to dress all black if I like it.
Now... pretendind that my past past is obscure and full of problems just to look like a "bad boy", that would be wrong and childish!
We need more existentialist thinkers here...
Okay, individualism is a lie. We are made up of our environment, society and that which we aquire on our own. That is unless we fight hard to delete all that our environment and society has done to us, but in that case, you'd be enlightened. We are made up of the same things, and people carry with them sets of beliefs and unless they stand to do something with them, they use those beliefs to fight others and make themselves feel unhappy, which is why I take the middle path. Often times people want to distinguish themselves from the crowd because they don't feel that they fit proprerly in society, so they do the opposite of everyone else, or follow headrunners such as Marilyn Manson. However, he simply presents his views as a sort of philosophy through his lyrics and image. Back to "individualism": music, clothes and eyeliner don't make you an individual, and are in fact insignificant in this universe. If you have no goal in following his image, by all means go ahead, but if you're trying to make a statement, why don't you go for something more original, instaed of switching from societies bitch to Manson's bitch. For those that question the followers: stick to your own existential issues. There's no reason to "hate them" for any reason.
You make some interesting points/observations Vano. I agree with you that we are composed of environment, society and personal experience. I agree to some point about the eyeliner and clothes, the style/use of them do not make the individual, they are just tools to allow you to stand out, or have people take notice. That is how someone who feels insignificant, or outcast may try to "fit in" to society or a specific group. People seem to forget that we are all born as individuals, I don't mean just being seperate from other people, what I mean is that aside from eye/hair color, there are likes/dislikes, individual views on everything; all combine together to form someone who is different from anyone else in the world. But even with that, we all have arms, legs, head, etc. and we look pretty much the same. That's where the clothes, green hair, tattoos come in to play.
I happen to like Marylin Manson and his music, when he first came on the scene, he made an instant impact, it was almost like he was the puzzle piece that was missing, he put his look together with his musical style and gave people another choice. I actually can't explain it, but, he explores places with music and imagery that most people don't see. And we're happy to watch.
I don't know if you are familiar with the movie "Future Shock", but it dealt with certain subjects, that when the movie came out it was very "shocking", but in 2007, these things are simply commonplace.
'Future Shock' reminds me of Victor Frankl's theory presented in 'Man's Search For Meaning' to the growing state of apathy due to the tremendous growth in technology and the expansion of society to the point where we look around and ask… "What's the point?" Maybe this is the reason for the recent Christian movement taking place. Man's world is opening up wide, and he begin to realize that there may just be nothingness, but for some reason he/she is afraid of death because there still is that question mark hovering above our heads. We arrive at the idea of Atheism, which can link directly to Nihilism, at which point we begin to wonder why we wake up at all. Society however has always re-enforced the idea that we must be afraid of death. To supress that fear and bring more comfort about, we turn to religion. That's the only rational reason I can find. Overall, Woody Allen put it best when he said, "Tradition is the illusion of permanence."
Manson is the greatest, he is very eccentric and philosophical. I love his artwork and would love to meet him. I just admire him.
gbman and Vano, i find your conversation very interesting. I hate the fact that society brain-washes us from the day we are born... They know that at a young age other people's opinions affect us greatly and they transform us to be just like everyone else in many ways... it is very hard to fight. I have always thought this i am not quite sure how to place it into words... sorry if it doesn't make any sense. It is near impossible to be unique because someone has pretty much done just about everything.
like i said if that makes any sense at all.
Panda: I think I understand what you mean, especially from being a baby, but I think we're all unique in whatever we do. You don't have to be flashy, or loud, or wear wild clothes, just by being ourselves makes us unique. Even if we do the same thing, we still do it our own way.
I like some of his music but im not like addicted to it or anything like that, but over all he totally creep me out from his past to his style etc etc Im mean for gods sake the guy got 2 or 4 ( icant remeber exactly) of his ribs removed so that he can give himself a blowjob :O thats CRAZY
Wow, umm... that's an internet rumor.
Anyways, he uses an extreme to show how extreme the other side is.
Best rendition of “I’ve Put A Spell On You” I’ve ever heard. Always brings a smile to my face to hear it.
Yes Steph, that rumor is kind of hard to swallow. (hehe) What's your source?
no pun intended right gb ;) I dont know what my source is, i heard it awhile ago but still even if it is false which it probably is at least i hope so its still a rumor that could easily be believed since its in referance to Manson
Not if you understand him.
well then I guess i dont understand him, do you?
I think I do.
well to think is to be so I guess you do
Maybe you should try then too.
Are you saying I dont think Vano?
Are you saying you don't think?
