The author of Dark Water and Ring (bases for the movies), and Ring’s awesome sequels, Spiral and Loop (with the upcoming translation of Birthday, the prequel). He has also written Paradise, which won the Japanese Fantasy Novel Award.
You may be suspicious of the quality of his writing, but “The Ring” (movie) is lacking almost all of the substance of “Ring” (the book) which was not a horror novel – it was more of a thriller/mystery novel with some surprisingly good writing.
