"Kek Lapis" is Malay for Layer Cake, which Sarawak (East Malaysia) is famous for. Apparently, some websites claim it's derived from the Dutch "Moscovis", which is spiced with cinnamon flavor. The cake is formed from compressed layers of various-flavored thin cakes.
I cannot verify the authenticity of such claims as to its origins. I just eat it.
Anyway, it's delicious.
